We offer

At Karolinska University Hospital, we offer you a fixed-term employment with salary during the training period, 2 semesters full-time starting in the fall of 2025. Once you have obtained your certificate as a Histotechnician, you will have great opportunities to be offered continued employment with us in Clinical Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics. We have the largest pathology laboratory in the Nordics and handle approximately 300,000 samples annually within a highly specialized world-class hospital.

About the training

After completing the training in Histotechnology, you will be able to become a certified Histotechnician and work with practical laboratory techniques in a pathology laboratory. Examples of tasks include;

• Assisting doctors with the dissection of surgical materials
• Receiving and registering samples from the hospital and other senders during sample submission
• Handling small fixed biopsies (embedding)
• Managing and maintaining some of the instruments that process tissue materials
• Working with paraffin embedding, sectioning, and staining of cut materials

During the training period, you will study the theoretical parts at Karolinska Institute, Campus Flemingsberg. The training also includes longer practical periods, which you will carry out at one of our laboratories at; Karolinska Solna, Karolinska Huddinge, Södersjukhuset, and Danderyds Hospital.

The training is a commissioned education and provides 60 credits but is not eligible for student aid, therefore we provide you with a fixed-term employment during the study period.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• High school diploma with eligibility: Biology 2, Physics 1a or Physics 1b1 + 1b2, Chemistry 2, Mathematics 3b or 3C or C or other education that the employer deems equivalent
• Work experience of at least 2 years

Meritorious:

• Relevant work experience, such as from laboratory operations
